Trend Analysis SS19 / SS20
So……… I know that people normally conduct trend research in January, but from my experience it’s often more beneficial to conduct trend research in February. I know this is going to sound cheeky, but everyone will of already released theirs, all of the colours of the years will be available and big expo’s such as Spring Fair will of taken place. This means that you will have a plethora of trend research and inspirational material right at your fingertips. Plus on a practical note, January is normally super busy, tying up loose ends from the year just past and planning the year ahead.
Anyway, there is a whopping 20 trends I’ve picked out, so let’s get down to business!
Using paint brush stroked in bright and bold or soft pastel colours, we love this trend however it’s styled.
02. ART DECO
This can be seen subtly used in all manner of ways, especially within interior design and graphic design. When paired with other trends, this can make anything look stylish and chic!
In a world that is forever becoming more eco-conscious and aware of our environment, this trend is all about going back to basics and bringing the outdoors in, paired with hand made and natural accessories.
04. CATS & DOGS
I mean, is this trend ever out? Whether is sophisticated line drawings or all out cartoons, cats and dogs are everywhere, forever.
Ooooh, this makes us swoon with love! Using brass and gold tones to accent against black, white or navy backgrounds, everything about this constellation trend is making us star-struck!
Similar to the constellation trend but not solely focussed on the stars, this trend bring moody depth to any room, design or palette.
Looks like geo patterns are here to stay, however they can be stripped back and used more subtly,
08. GOLD & BRASS
Although silver seemed to have the limelight for a long time, and rose gold even made an appearance, it looks like it’s time for gold and brass-we can’t get enough!
Oh to be on holiday forever, well no it can feel like it. Creating the image of just walking off the beach and straight into your holiday home, Ibiza brings the wonderlust to you.
10. LINE ART
So simple, yet effective. Line art can represent so many aspects of life in the form of design and applied to nearly any product. Used heavily as a pattern or used as a simple wall art, we love it!
11. LIVING CORAL
The pantone colour or the year. Living coral is that spark of happiness everyone needs to start their day, although not used too often as a focal colour, this is the perfect pop colour to add impact to any design.
Who doesn’t love a bit of Skandi chic? Using very natural soft tones, clean straight lines and plenty of natural accessories, this trend adds a calming stillness to any occasion.
13. NOMADIC & NAVAJO
Nomadic, meaning wanderer and Navajo being a large native American territory these trends go hand in hand. This trend boasts bright colours and Mexican style patterns.
Extending on the Dulux colour of the year “spiced honey”, nudes are very much replacing all the grey in the world-finally! But this time, instead of not too sexy “beige” the neutral tones have been upgraded to “oatmeal”, “fresh linen” and “nude”.
Although used a lot for childrens products and designs, the rainbow trend is too good to ignore. Commonly seen in a hand-painted style, we believe this would be amazing across adult ranges too-who doesn’t need a little sunshine in their life?
16. SCALLOPS & SCALES
Mostly used in interior design, but can easily be reflected in graphic design through patterns, scallops and scales create texture and a magical sea feel.
17. TERRAZZO & CONFETTI
This trend seems to of been around for a while and we still love it, using any contrasting or complementary colour palette, this pattern can be fun, chic and extremely diverse.
This trend compiles earthy, natural tones, handmade accessories the classic diamond print to give a chic twist to a beautiful classic.
Although this was big last year, it seems no one can get enough of the tropical trend. We love how diverse this trend can be. You can pair it with bright colours and heavy print for a more fun feel, or use it dark moody tones to create your own indoor rainforest, or you can have subtle hints around the home to make your living space feel a little more natural. However you use it, we love it!
