Quality Over Quantity

I feel like there’s a big “hussle bus” at the moment and I’m not sure if I’m on board with it (pardon the pun!).

It has become increasing apparent that quality is what people want and oh boy will they wait for it! There seems to be a common misperception that the more you work, the more you get done. This is wrong on so many levels.

Your brain can only work at optimum level for so long before it gets tired, bored or distracted. Sitting at your desk for several hours trying to butcher a piece of work is always going to produce a lower quality piece than if you take your time, have regular breaks and really focus on the task in hand.

If you present a handful of designs to someone that are of average quality they will look at them for a short time and move on because the work has no intrigue. However, when you share one or two designs that show a meticulous eye to detail, clear information and impeccable quality, they will hold the viewers attention. It will be clear they have been well considered and had a lot of time spent on them, so in a strange way, the viewer will feel like they owe it to take the same consideration and time to view the work.

Quality is always more important than quantity so allow yourself regular breaks, take your time and never feel like “being busy” means you actually are, becasue working yourself to exhaustion will never get you anywhere!
